Spent today on the Madison River between Mac and Varney Bridge with Joe and Susan from Minneapolis. We got on before 8 am and beat the crowds. We had good dry fly fishing until 2 pm. Any Caddis, parachute Light Cahill, Salmon Fly seemed to work although the fish only seemed to swat at the bigger flies and not really eat them. Susan got a 21" Rainbow and Joe had a nice Brown that got off. Only got 1 whitey and a ton of 8-12" trout. Got off of the river just before a big storm hit. On the Yellowstone a slide in the Park got the river dirty. Also a brush fire burned down some power lines knocking out the power to most of the Park and Gardner. Somehow a malfunction at the water treatment plant dumped some chemicals into the river. This is only a rumor. We will find how bad it is tomorrow.
